Whitewater Unified School District Sees Growth in 2025 State Report Cards

WHITEWATER, WI — The Whitewater Unified School District (WUSD) is pleased to announce its 2025 results from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) State Report Cards, showing overall improvement and highlighting key areas of academic growth.

The DPI report cards measure performance using accountability scores, overall ratings, and a five-star system across four priority areas: Achievement, Growth, Target Group Outcomes, and On-Track to Graduation.

WUSD earned an overall score of 69.9, up 7 points from last year, maintaining a rating of "Meets Expectations."

The following are the results across WUSD schools:

  • Lakeview Elementary School scored 80.8, up 1.8 points from last year, continuing to "Exceed Expectations."

  • Lincoln Elementary School scored 75.5, marking a 10.1-point increase and improving its rating to "Exceeds Expectations."

  • Washington Elementary School scored 67.2, noting a 5.2 point decrease and receiving a rating of “Meets Expectations.”

  • Whitewater High School increased by 6.7 points to a score of 70.8, maintaining "Meets Expectations."

  • Whitewater Middle School rose by 8.1 points to 65.7, jumping from “Meets Few Expectations” to "Meets Expectations."

Washington Elementary School saw some improvement in the area of student achievement, which is one of the components of the school report card scoring. The school report card also places an emphasis on growth within all subgroups of students, an area where school and district leaders are working to analyze data to inform instruction and implement strategies found successful across the district.

Across all levels, the district demonstrated strength in the On-Track to Graduation indicator, which reflects attendance, third-grade literacy, eighth-grade math achievement, and graduation rates. These indicators signal that students are meeting important academic milestones and staying engaged in their learning.

“We are incredibly proud of the growth reflected in this year’s results,” said Superintendent Samuel Karns. “The progress at Lincoln Elementary and Whitewater Middle School, along with the consistent performance at our high school and elementary schools, speaks to the dedication of our educators and the resilience of our students. We also recognize where we must focus additional attention, and we are committed to using this data to inform next steps and continuous improvement."

The DPI’s state accountability system provides a valuable framework for understanding school and district performance and guides decisions to improve student outcomes.
